Professor Shalina Mehta did her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Delhi University and taught sociology at the Institute of Home Economics, Delhi University, before joining Panjab University, Chandigarh in 1977. She taught there for 39 years and served as professor for nearly twenty years. She has been a recipient of several National and International Honours and Awards; some of her achievements include: UGC Career Award in Humanities and Social Sciences (1987-1990), Research Associate (1997) and Visiting Fellow (1998) at Environmental Institute, Houston, USA, IDPAD (ICSSR/WOTRO programme) Exchange Fellow at IIAS, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2000), Senior Fellow–SSRC (Social Science Research Council, New York) under its South Asia Regional Fellowship Programme (2003) funded by Ford Foundation, USA. Expert Guest Professor in Gender Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), South Africa. She has more than 80 research papers published in national and International journals. She is author of five books and four edited volumes. Her publications are on Ethnicity, Gender, Tribal Studies and Medical Anthropology.
