Prof. K. Anil Kumar is a Head of the Department, Janapada Sampada Division at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi. Prior to that, from 2010 to 2022 he worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, School of Social Sciences in IGNOU New Delhi. He also worked as an Assistant Professor from 2007 to 2010 at Centre for Economic and Social Studies (ICSSR Institute) Hyderabad. He obtained his M.A. M. Phil. and Ph.D. degree in Anthropology from the University of Hyderabad. He has been a recipient of the ICSSR Doctoral Fellowship. His area of specialization is Socio-Cultural Anthropology and his research interests include Culture and Environment, Indigenous Knowledge System, Natural Resource Management, Health & Nutrition, Development-induced Displacement, Resettlement and Rehabilitation, and Tribal Studies. He has published a good number of research papers and articles in reputed journals. He is the author of three books entitled “Obstructed Access to Forest Justice: The Implementation of Institutional Reform (FRA-2006) in Andhra Pradesh Forested Landscapes (2010)”, “Relevance of Local Environmental Knowledge in the Era of Globalization (2011)” and “ Large Dams and Displacement in India: Issues of Compensation, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (2023)”. Prof. Kumar has participated in many National and International seminars and presented papers. He has been actively associated with major and minor research projects and surveys with EPTRI, NIN, FHI, IPPG, UGC, DFID and Jamsetji Tata Trust. Under his guidance five students awarded their Ph.D. thesis. He is the recipient of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Excellence Award of Eduction-2020 by Shikshak Kalyaan Foundation for his outstanding contribution in the field of education. In recognition of his contributions to the discipline of anthropology, Prof. K. Anil Kumar was recently honoured at the World Anthropology Congress (WAC) 2023, held in Bhubaneswar.
