Prof. Indu Talwar

Biological Anthropologist

Prof. Indu Talwar did her M.Sc from the Department of Anthroplogy,Panjab University Chandigarh in 1974 , and was awarded University medal for standing first class first. While holding the U.G.C fellowship, She obtained her Ph..D degree in 1979 from Panjab University under the supervision of legend like late Prof.S.R.K.Chopra. She was appointed lecturer in 1977 in the same department and became professor in 1998 and served the department till 2018 as professor. Prof Talwar has been the chairperson of the department from 2005-2008. She has 41 years of teaching and 43 years of research experience to her credit . Her research interests include areas of human growth& development, body composition, physique and nutrition, human genetics and biochemical variations and molecular genetics. She is the author of five books and more than 85 publications in national and international journals with high impact factors. She has the rare honour of having been nominated as member of Advisory Committee of Anthropological Survey of India from 2009-2014 by the Ministry of Culture. She has organised many conferences including that of INCAA in 2008, chaired sessions at various conferences and delivered invited lectures. Prof. Talwar is a life member of various learned societies. In 2019, she was conferred life time achievement award for her distinguished services in the subject of anthropology. Currently, she is the Vice Chairperson of INCAA and is the Editor of Indian Journal of Physical Anthropology and Human Genetics.
