Dr. (Mrs.) Ranjana Ray, Professor Emeritus, is former Professor of the department of Anthropology, Calcutta University. She Taught in the department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta since 1974. She had her education in Lady Brabourne College, Calcutta University and Hawaii University (recipient of East West Center Fellowship for Graduate studies, a Federal Fellowship). She has got research experience of 57 years, published 110 scientific papers, Edited 10 books. She is the life member of a number of learned bodies both in India and abroad. At present, Elected as Anthropological Secretary of the Asiatic Society, Member of the Permanent Council of the International Union for Prehistoric and Protohistoric Sciences( a body of the UNESCO) and of International Forum for the Archaeological Heritage Policies and Strategies. Her major interest in Anthropology lies with Archaeological Anthropology, Socio-cultural Anthropology, cultural heritage, continuity of cultural traits from past to present. Above all believes that future of Anthropology lies in its holistic study of Man.
