Professor P.K. Misra, honoured patron of UIAF, is a distinguished social anthropologist. He obtained his Masters and Ph.D. degrees in anthropology from Lucknow University in 1958 and 1966 respectively. From 1958 to 1983, he worked with Anthropological Survey of India. That was followed by several teaching assignments, first as Professor and Head, Department of Studies in Anthropology, University of Mysore, then Professor and Director, Tribal Research institute, Tamil University, followed by celebrated career as Professor of Anthropology at NEHU, Shillong. He was Visiting Professor to the University of Oregon, Oregon, Eugene, USA and the University of the West Indies, Trinidad. He is currently the President, Anthropological Association, India. He has made remarkable contributions to the study of Nomads, Hunters and Food Gatherers, Indigenous System of Knowledge, Conservation and Development and Indian Diaspora. He has published 20 books and 147 papers in some reputed national and international journals. His latest book is titled Tribal Heritage: An Overlooked Chapter of Indian History, 2017.
