Revisiting Material Trait Survey: its Multifaceted Significance

Prof. P. K. Misra delivered a lecture on the historical significance of material trade surveys in India, recounting their experiences working under N. K. Bose at the Anthropological Survey of India (ASI) and the challenges of defining units of study in anthropological research.  The discussion included contributions from Prof. Deepak Kumar Behera, Dr. Sampriti Panda, Priya Kr, Kamal Misra, Sunita Reddy, Rahim Mondal, PC Joshi, and Shalini Mehta, addressing issues of bias in interpretation,  digital accessibility of ASI resources, the legacy of Bose's fieldwork rigor, and the decolonization of Indian anthropology.  Sunita Reddy suggested utilizing digital methods to improve accessibility of ASI resources, with Misra P K recommending contacting the current director for assistance.
